Government grants for Small Business in 2022

  • February 9, 2022

The Australian government have launched several initiatives to support small businesses during the pandemic, but there have been so many updates it’s hard to keep up with what is available to whom.

So we’ve decided to do a quick re-cap to help you out.

1. 2022 Small Business Support Program

The NSW Government has recently announced a new initiative; the 2022 Small Business Support Program which aims to help businesses survive the impacts of the Omicron COVID-19 strain.

Who is eligible?

  • Have an aggregated annual turnover of between $75,000 and $50 million as of 30 June 2021
  • Have experienced at least a 40 per cent turnover decline during January 2022, compared to January 2021 or 2020
  • and experienced at least a 40 per cent turnover decline from 1 to 14 February 2022 as a result of Omicron disruption, compared to the same fortnight in February of 2021 or 2020
  • employing businesses must maintain their employee headcount as is by 30 January 2022

Eligible businesses and not-for-profit organisations will receive 20% of weekly payroll as a lump sum for the month of February, with a minimum payment of $750 per week up to a maximum payment of $5,000 per week. Eligible non-employing businesses will receive $500 per week, paid as a lump sum of $2,000.

The NSW Government has announced that the small business fees and charges rebate will increase from $2,000 to $3,000. Eligible employing businesses will be able to use the rebate against 50% of the cost of rapid antigen tests from late March.

This rebate helps businesses recover from the impacts of COVID-19 and encourages growth by reducing the cost of running a business. Eligible businesses or not-for-profits only need to apply for the rebate once, but can submit multiple claims until the full value of $3,000 is reached.

Who is eligible?

  • have total Australian wages below the NSW Government 2020–21 payroll tax threshold of $1.2 million
  • have an Australian Business Number (ABN) registered in NSW and/or have business premises physically located and operating in NSW.
